A very special performance that combines Word and Music in a unique way. A journey into the Life and Art of the greatest soprano of the 20th century Maria Kalogeropoulou Callas. The internationally renowned artists, the Cypriot soprano Chryso Makariou, who is based in Vienna, the Bulgarian Baritone Krum Galabov and the well-known Actor Achilleas Grammatikopoulos join forces on stage with the Pianist Zbynek Maruska. The Event is the greatest homage ever presented in Cyprus to the life and work of the most important soprano of the 20th century , Maria Callas (1923-1977), following the steps from her early achievements up until her sudden death. The concept of the event combines harmonically spoken word, rare audio-visual material, live performance that portrays the world of Maria Callas, as diva assoluta and Μaria Κalogeropoulou, as woman and artist who struggled for perfection and truth in her art.
The conception of the event combines, in addition to the interpretation of the most characteristic arias and opera scenes of Callas, audiovisual material in the form of collages, rare photographic material and interviews. The tremendous work of the research was undertaken by the Historian Musicologist Dr Spyridoula Katsarou, while the editing was made by Maria Avraam. The monologue / narrative is based on unique sources and archives, amongst others, such as the one of ERT , the National Opera of Athens, the National Conservatory of Athens, as well as large collections of personal items and letters by Maria Callas from private collectors.
The performance is under the High Protection of the First Lady Mrs Andri Anastasiades, spouse of the President of the Republic of Cyprus.
The ‘Maria Kalogeropoulou Callas’ project is being organized by the Pancyprian Association “One Wish One Dream”, supporting children suffering from cancer and related diseases.
