There is always something interesting for all ages at the Planetarium: events, the Observatory, guided tours at the geology and fossils exhibitions and much more.
In every evening with clear skies, the stars appear one after another. The wonders of the night sky inspire people and offer them enjoyment and relaxation.
From time to time a dream to know all names of the stars and planets and to locate them easily comes.
Now the KITION PLANETARIUM & OBSERVATORY gives you the opportunity to fulfill this dream.
A special course for beginners READ THE SKY will start this September. It consists of 4 sessions under the sky.
The course offers you the skills to locate and recognize any constellation you wish in the sky, to orientate and navigate with the help of the stars, introduces the world of the planets and stars
and gives a fascinating picture of the Universe visible by naked eye from Cyprus.
The sessions will be conducted by the Astrophysicist Alexander Prokofyev a special guest of the KITION PLANETARIUM & OBSERVATORY from Ukraine.
The sessions will be conducted every Friday, starting on Friday 9 th September 2016 at 20:00 at the KITION PLANETARIUM & OBSERVATORY, in Kiti.
At completion of the course a participation diploma will be awarded.
Alexander Prokofyev graduated with honor the Department of Physics at Moscow State University (Lomonosov University).
His scientific work is connected to “Cosmic Strings in Expanded Theories of Gravitation”. Nowadays he conducts research in archeoastronomy, organizes and participates in observations of total sun
eclipses, meteor showers and asteroid's occultations. He has publications in scientific and popular editions, makes reports on national and International conferences. His talent to uncover modern
scientific achievements to common listeners is well known to armatures of astronomy. He gave lectures in Russia, Ukraine, Germany, Finland and Cyprus.
