Imagination is the core issue of the new series of the artist. Other features of his works are freedom of expression and style, variety and experimentation. The themes vary from completely abstract works to imaginary landscapes or symbolic compositions which are intended to send some humanitarian, ecological or peace-loving messages. A small number of paintings present landscapes, particularly of Paphos, all presented with imagination and freedom of expression. The artist does not hesitate to use different painting tools, brushes, knifes, sponges and various everyday use objects, in order to achieve the desired result.
Variety is present also in the size of the paintings (from miniatures to large compositions), a fact which is also reflected in pricing. It is expected that Technopolis 20 visitors will appreciate the work of an amateur painter, created with much love, care and conscientiousness.
A few words about Andreas D. Symeou
Our well-known fellow citizen Andreas D. Symeou, a retired senior officer of Lands and Surveys Department, now a lecturer at Neapolis University, was born in Paphos in 1948. Since his childhood he was occupied with painting. At the age of 15 he participated in a group exhibition that took place at the Paphos Municipal Hall with three other students of the (then) First Gymnasium of Paphos. Studies, family and professional needs kept him away from active involvement in artistic activities for a long time. He had, however, always a pencil in hand, drawing portraits of relatives, colleagues and friends or landscapes and still life, while at the same time studying a lot of books on topics such as history and theory of art, styles and techniques.
In 1999 he had his first solo exhibition with landscapes in acrylic, from all over Paphos entitled “Beautiful Corners of Paphos” which was a great success. Since then he paints at times and his paintings decorate his house, as well as houses of relatives and friends. His involvement with Technopolis 20 alongside his daughter Marina, encouraged him to be involved more systematically with painting. In his new solo exhibition, works of the last two years are displayed.
