Despina Karyou was born in Paralimni, in the free area of Ammochostos (Famagusta), in Cyprus. She graduated from Paralimni High School with Honors and was granted by the school and the teachers with the Ethics and Promotion Award.
After finishing High School, She studied Graphic Arts and Advertising at European University of Cyprus, under full scholarship, for one Academic Year, which she completed with Honors. Following that, she secured a place in the Athens School of Fine Arts, a Dream come true. In 2015, she graduated from the School with Honors and today works as a Fine Artist and Art Professor.
Despina took part in many art competitions, since school, receiving many Praises and Awards. For example, in academical period 2008-2009, as a High School Senior, took part in a European Competition entitled “Social Relationships” and achieved 3rd place.
Through the experiences and opportunities provided by her time in the School of Fine Arts, Despina participated in further contests, receiving many encouraging comments; she also took part in exhibitions, such as “CITY LINK: Cities in the city” and “International Amnesty: The Human Rights”. She also participated in various group exhibitions, such as “Can it be done another way?”, “Globalization deserves a Philosophical an Artistic Answer”, and”Summer Relations”, which was shown at the Time of Art Gallery of Athens. During her final year at the School of Fine Arts, she contributed to a group exhibition displayed at the Felios Collection.
Since returning to Cyprus, Despina has worked with, and contributed to, many art activities all over the island, starting off in the Famagusta District.
With her time, Despina creates and stays informed in both theoretical and technical levels of the Visual Arts field.
