Andreas Nicοlaou participated in many solo and group exhibitions in Cyprus, Greece, London, Rome, Barcelona, Lausanne, Berlin and Munich. In 2003, a retrospective of his work was presented at the Museum of Modern Art in Rome and in 2005 The Pierides Museum organized an exhibition in Cyprus with the theme "The Portrait of the Minotaure".
His paintings can be viewed in public collections: The National Gallery-Athens, The State Collection of Contemporary Art-Nicosia, The Museum of Modern Art-Rome, The School of Fine Arts-Athens, The Greek Ministry of Culture-Athens, in Municipal Collections in Greece and Cyprus, in corporate collections of the National Bank of Greece, Eurobank, Interamerican Insurance Athens, Popular Bank of Cyprus; as well as in major private collections around the world.
Born in Cyprus in 1966, Andreas started exhibiting his art from the age of 15. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts, Munich (1985-87). He continued his formal training on a state scholarship at the School of Fine Arts, Athens (1987-1992), in the studio of P.Tetsis, from where he graduated with honors. Andreas now lives and works in Athens.
His new work centers on the human body presented in the most readable and pure form, but behind the first impression emerge the infinite and chaotic secrets and riddles that govern each figure. The figures are driven on a journey through time and space, in company with the moon in a vast universe. Misty colors that intensify these imaginary spaces and moons which accompany these eternal travelers.
