The Award Ceremony and the Official Dinner were held at Annabelle Hotel on Saturday 6th May 2017. On the basis of mutual respect and fair participation, 31 wineries were contested with a total of 147 wine samples. The wine samples were judged by a Jury of esteemed Tasters under the supervision of the International Organization of Vine and Wine (OIV). According to the International Standard of the OIV, the 30% of the participant wine samples was awarded with a medal, specifically; 1 Grand Gold, 16 Gold and 30 Silver Medals. Five more Special Distinctions were granted to wines from Cypriot indigenous varieties. It is worth to mention that another 65 wine samples achieved a total ranking of more than 80 points, however, they have not received a medal due to the international threshold of 30%. This fact indicates the new quality dynamics of the “Wines of Cyprus” and their true identity as ambassadors of the country. The Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment Mr. Nikos Kouyialis in his speech emphasized that “tonight the best of the best Wine of Cyprus are awarded as the outcome of the intelligent and meticulous effort of the Cypriot wine makers and the great wine improvement of the country over the past years”.
